Burial Records of First Reformed Church, Easton:
8/15/1832, Sophia Transue, Saucon, age 64Y 9M 3D

Some Transue researchers have assumed dates for Sophia of 11/12/1767-8/15/1832. But the other entries in these records show clearly that these are burial dates, not death dates. Adults were typically buried 2-3 days after death so it is assumed for convenience that Sophia died on 8/12, making her birthdate 11/9. Some Transue researchers have assumed that Sophia was buried at St. Luke's Old Williams, which is where her younger children were baptized. However, "Saucon" is consistently used for burial at Lower Saucon, which is where Sophia's elder children were baptized. So clearly Sophia is buried at Lower Saucon and not at St. Luke's Old Williams. There is no marked grave for Sophia or Abraham in either cemetery.

By the will of John Godhard who died in Northumberland County but previously lived in Williams Twp., it is proven that Sophia was his granddaughter. However, it is not clear how she was his granddaughter.

Sophia's birthdate is suspiciously close to the documented birthdate of 11/18/1767 of John Godhard's granddaughter Sophia Hess, daughter of William and Anna Catharine (Godhard) Hess. However, a history of the Godhard family claims that Sophia Hess married c.1810 to Philip Fritz, widower of another granddaughter of John Godhard. If so, then Sophia Transue cannot be Sophia Hess despite how close the birthdates are. It would also be strange for John Godhard to make a bequest to his daughter Catharine and then make a separate bequest to one of her more than 10 children. So the theory that Sophia Transue is the daughter of William and Anna Catharine (Godhard) Hess seems unlikely.

The estate file of Frederick Frutchey proves that Sophia is not the daughter of Anna Maria (Gotthard) Frutchey. Transue family history suggests that Sophia's maiden name was Bender so it's possible that John Godhard had an unidentified daughter who married a Bender and that she was the mother of Sophia Transue. But it's unproven that Sophia Transue's maiden name was actually Bender.
