A native of Smithfield, N.C., and a longtime resident of New Orleans prior to residing in Lutcher, he was called from this life to eternal rest on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. He was 63.

Relatives and friends of the family, also managers and staff of Wal-Mart, are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, La. 44, Paulina, on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Vincent Dufresne, celebrant. Visiting will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Entombment in the church mausoleum.

Survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda Washington Chappell; three daughters, Melissa Chappell and husband Wesley Wilson, Tiffany and Jeaneen Chappell; two sons, Dwight Melvin Chappell and wife Marcia, and Anthony Chappell Jr. and wife Sabrina; a sister, Diane Chappell; and brother, Charles Chappell and wife Yolanda. He was brother-in-law of Georgia Williams and Calvin H. Washington Jr. Also survived by five grandchildren, Alexis, Jasmine, Joshua and Daria Melvin, and Madison Kelly; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron Chappell, who was of Red Hill, N.C., and Bettie Williams Chappell, who was of Smithfield, N.C.; brothers, Thurman and Randolph Williams; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Calvin H. Washington and Wilhelmena Pierce Washington.

The family would like to extend special gratitude to St. Joseph's Hospice, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Quality Care sitters.
