Actress. Born in 1910 in Oak Park, Illinois, she was delivered by Dr. C.E. Hemingway, father of Ernest Hemingway. She is best remembered as "Laura" in the original Broadway production of "The Glass Menagerie." She also appeared in Saroyan's "The Time of Your Life." She also appeared in movies from 1931 through 1947. She was married to the drama critic George Jean Nathan. After he died in 1958, she toured and recorded some of her late husband's works. Her last stage appearance was the off-Broadway production of The Glass Menagerie, 1980. Her archives are housed at the La Crosse, Wisconsin Public Library.
