Leona Elizabeth Ballance, 73, was born to the union of James and Virginia VanBuren on April 13, 1939 in Fulton, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by both parents; brother, William VanBuren; sister, Martha Cooper; son, Donald Keith Black and grandson, Antonio Black.

She attended the Fulton school district and went to Columbia University where she received a degree in Business. At the age of twenty-eight, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she pursued her career in Business. Before her retirement she worked as a Clerk for the Radiology Dept. at Menorah Medical Center.

On July 14, 1975 she married the love of her life, [name removed] and lived a happy, loving life as she took pride in being a wife and mother. She accepted the Lord at an early age and she continued her walk with the Lord as a member of Fresh Start Ministries and Kansas City Community Church. She loved to cook and bake, but above anything else she loved her family through the love of Christ. She always instilled in them how important it was to love the Lord first. She loved attending the family in home Bible Studies, which would occasionally be hosted at her home. She was a prayer warrior, had an infectious smile, a loving heart and would do whatever she could to help anyone, whether it be an act of kindness or offer biblical words of wisdom and encouragement.

Leona received her wings on January 31, 2013 at Menorah Medical Center with her family by her side. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, [name removed]; four sons, [names removed]; two daughters, [names removed]; one brother, [name removed]; thirteen grandchildren, [names removed]; seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a special niece and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Kansas City Community Church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
