Flight Officer Bonchi served with the 213th
Base Unit, Mountain Home Army Air Base,
Idaho.
He was one of six airmen fatally injured in the
crash landing of B-24J Liberator #42-100056,
when the pilot was forced to set the bomber
down due to engine fires, eight miles south of
the airfield.
Son of Ann (Maniani) Bonchi, native of Italy.

The five other airmen who died were:

The late Flight Officer, Anthony A. Bonchi, 23, son of Mrs Anna Bonchi, 415 Mconough St. gave his life while in the service of his country
Flight Officer Bonchi was one of four Army fliers killed late in November in the crash of a Liberator bomber 10 miles northwest of the Mountain Home Air Field, Idaho, base. He enlisted at Cleveland in October, 1942.
Formerly residents of Kelleys Island, the Bonchi family has resisided in Sandusky the past three years. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church and the Italian-American Club.
His mother; two sisters, Evangeline and Mary Bonchi both at home; a brother, Joseph I. Bonchi, an air pilot in the Army and stationed in Georgia, and his fiancee, Miss Rose Marie Contelli, of this city, survive.
services were conducted at St. Michael's Church, Kelleys Island and burial made on the island. A military escort from Camp Perry accompanied the body to the church and cemetery.

Services for Flight Officer Anthony Bonchi, killed in the crash of a Liberator bomber last week in Idaho were held Thursday at St. Michael's Church at Kelleys Island. The Revs. A.C. Pessfeal, of Norwalk, and J.E. Maerder and D.D. Moore, of Bellevue, officiating at the solemn requiem mass. Burial was in the island cemetery.
Pallbearers were Louis Magi, James Muscacino, Louis Pogfiali, Adam Bonchi, Albert Bennettine and Amemic Phillips.
