He died in Georgetown, what was then known as British Guiana; Since the 1960s it has been known as Guyana. His remains were brought home in April of 1948 for his funeral/reburial rites which were held on May 1, 1948.

His sister Sabina was a coed at the time at the U. of Md, College Park. One account said he was born in Pompey, New York and attended Dwight Prep School and Cornell University. He entered the service in 1941 and had been overseas for some 18 months with the 35th Air Force. His widow was the former Genevieve O'Brien of Fayetteville, New York.
