DONAHUE, Iowa - Frances J. Johnston, a resident of Donahue, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006, at the Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa. Private family interment services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department or to the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. She was born September 6, 1921, in Davenport, the daughter of Charles and Wilhelmina (Neumann) Hansen. On December 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to Forrest E. Johnston in Davenport. Frances was employed as a nurse's aid at the former Mercy Hospital in Davenport for 15 years. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and loved to care for her flower and vegetable garden. Her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Forrest; her daughters, Irene (Terry) Morgan, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Linda Tilford, of Hiawatha, Iowa; her sons, Steve (Linette) Johnston, of Eldridge, Howard (Kathleen) Johnston, of DeWitt, Iowa, Daniel Johnston, of Donahue, and Gary (Cecilia (Pordon)) Johnston, of Davenport; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Richard Jahn, of Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Frances was preceded in death by her grandson, Jack Lee Johnston, her sisters, Marian, Hazel and Irma, and her brothers, Donald and Sonny.
