LARRY RAY KNAPP
ST. IGNATIUS -- Larry Ray Knapp died on April 9, 2004, while scuba diving in Tahiti. He was a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and naval aviator. He was an accomplished test pilot and survived more than 23 emergency landings. He also set first-time records for high-altitude helicopter rescues. He received a BS degree from the Univ. of Utah in meteorology, with a minor in zoology. In retirement he undertook advanced studies in psychology at the Univ. of Montana. He was an accomplished diver, worldwide sailor, navigator, dog breeder, commercial fisherman, avid horse lover, expert marksman and national archery champion. He traveled thousands of miles on motorcycles throughout the USA and in foreign countries. In his retirement years he developed and ran the Mandorla Ranch as a successful bed and breakfast. Ray and his wife also worked on many international tourism projects and missions. He was predeceased by his father, Hal Knapp. He is survived by his wife, Mara DelliPriscoli (St Ignatius); his mother, Joy Matheson; sons Douglas and Stephen; and sisters Lorrayne and Cheryl (all residents of Washington); and sister Sandy (CA). A memorial service was held on April 15 at the Mandorla Ranch B&B in St. Ignatius.
