Melvin R. Dunlap, our dedicated and beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully of an abdominal complication in the early morning of Feb. 6, 2012; he was 94 years old.

Melvin was born to Ralph R. Dunlap and Milly Kilbourne Dunlap on Jan. 13, 1918. Educated in Salt Lake City, he graduated from East High School in 1935. He was a good student and athlete, excelling in football, baseball and track. He later attended BYU where he studied Engineering.

His career as an engineer began with Mountain Bell Telephone Company. He was responsible for the construction and installation of phone lines all around the Western States Region, including Utah. After 39 years with the company he retired at age 59. He was an avid football and basketball enthusiast and loved the Utes.

He was the husband of Betty Jean Davis Dunlap who preceded him in death. They were married in 1941. Theirs was an exemplary marriage that lasted 64 years. Their son, Michael, daughter-in-law Jane, and granddaughter Stephanie were their top priority. Mel's special relationship with his son enriched both their lives greatly.

Melvin was a fine man who loved his home and his country. He was unselfish to a fault; always putting the needs of his family and friends before his own.

Wasatch Lawn Mortuary handled the private arrangements. With immediate family only, Melvin was laid to rest Monday Feb. 13, 2012.
