John M. Smith, Jr., 97 of Bishopville, S.C., passed away on August 13, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey in Sumter, S.C. Born August 1, 1921, in Lexington County, S.C., he was the son of J. Martin Smith and Mattie Wicker Smith.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nina Outlaw Smith, and his only sibling, Christine Muldrow Shirley (Louis).
He retired from DuPont, Camden, S.C., in 1983 and served many years as a deacon at Elliott Baptist Church, Elliott, S.C.
