Corporal Byerly was killed in the line of duty
aboard B-29 Superfortress #42-93895, from
Clovis Army Air Base, New Mexico.

His bomber collided in mid-air with Alamogordo-
based B-29 #44-86276, piloted by Aubrey K Stinson.

The collision occurred over Weatherford, Texas
while on a training flight to Fort Worth.

The aircrew killed were: (two survived):

1st Lt. Robert A Mayer
2nd Lt. Robert L Knight
2nd Lt. John W Burtis
Flt Off. Robert Q Zaleska
S/Sgt. Clifford D Longmire
Cpl. Robert H Apirian
Cpl. Jasper C Wilson, Jr
