Obituary courtesy of Richard Cutler: Daniel James Hallman, son of David and Anice Hallman was born September 18, 1833 and died September 9, 1924, aged 90 years. 11 months and 21 days. He joined old Mt. Eable Baptist Church in early manhood. Later he moved his membership to Samaria Baptist Church and afterwards was one of the founders and charter members of Luidale Baptist Church of which he remained a member and deacon until the day of his death. He married Ellen Hall, daughter of Elijah and Polly Hall in 1856. There was born to this union of nine children, five boys and four girls. Six are dead, three living: E.S. Hallman of Lexington, Mattie Avery, Duke, M.C., and Lewie Hallman of Boston, Ga. There is one brother living, Rev. S. T. Hallman, Spartanburg. There are 75 grandchildren and 116 great grandchildren. Of these descendants, 150 are still living. Mr. Hallman served through the Confederate war. He served well his day and generation.. Truly the Lord hath said. Mr. Daniel Hallman, a Confederate veteran and soldier, and one of the oldest Christian citizens of Lexington County died at the home of his son, Mr. E.L. Hallman, on September 9, 1924. He was laid to rest in the cemetery of the Baptist Church of Gilbert, of which he was a faithful member for many years. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G.W.Gurley, the pastor, and Rev. W.C.Wallace, in the presence of a great number of relatives and friends. Mr. Hallman was nearly 91 years of age at the time of his death. He was a faithful follower of Christ from his early boyhood. A good citizen and a good man. A heritage worthy of the emulation for all of us. He was buried with Masonic honors.
