The couple moved to Oakland, California about 1916. Kate died at the home of her daughter in San Diego while visiting there on Christmas Eve. Burial plans were not announced in the Lenox, Iowa newspaper, and presumably were in California. Her husband's sister, Mrs. O. D. (Jennie Allen Wilkin) Tyler, died a week later on New Year's Day in Lenox, Iowa.
