DAVENPORT - Services and Mass of Christian Burial for the Rev. Mr. William J. Jones, of Iowa City, and formerly of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Entombment will be in Davenport Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Rev. Mr. Jones died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at Crestview Nursing Home, West Branch, Iowa, after an extended illness. He was born March 14, 1921, in Ivington, N.J., the son of John Francis Jones and Mary (O'Connell) Jones. Rev. Mr. Jones was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II with the rank of sergeant. He was a life-time member of American Legion Bell Post 242, Chicago. He received his Electrical Engineering Degree in 1953 from Chicago Technical College and retired in 1985 as Senior Resident Engineer for Foxboro Corporation. He married Carolyn Skic on March 25, 1944, in Syracuse, New York. She preceded him in death January 10, 1997. Rev. Mr. Jones was ordained to the Diaconate for the Diocese of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1980, he then transferred to the Davenport Diocese in 1990. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree and Loras Assembly 4th Degree, and Instrument Society of America. Memorial may be made to St. Paul the Apostle. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark W. and Kathy Jones, Mesa, Ariz., and Dr. Jeffrey F. And Margaret Jones, Iowa; five grandchildren; and a nephew, Thomas F. Dabrowski, Elmhurst, Ill. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Jones.
