Born in Appomattox County on Oct. 11, 1903, she was a daughter of the late David Holcomb and Rosa Belle Wooldridge Mitchell. Holly was the oldest living member of Memorial United Methodist Church having joined over 70 years ago, had been an active member of United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school and served for many years as a communion steward. She was a homemaker and enjoyed 16 years as an employee of Appomattox High School cafeteria.
Survivors include her grandson, Harold Grady Cawthorne, Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Severn, Md.; three great grandsons, Chuck Cawthorne and his wife, Jenny, of Severn, Md., Troy Cawthorne and his wife, Kristi, of Florida and Paul Cawthorne of Severn, Md.; four great-great-grandchildren, Dale and Dawson Cawthorne and Tate and Cole Cawthorne; several nieces and nephews, among whom are Faye Wood and Lois McWane both of Lynchburg, Kitty Hickman, Richmond and H.T. Wood, Jr., of Wichita Falls, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her son, Harold Grady Cawthorne; one sister, Vara M. Wood; five brothers, Bertie, Carley, Berkley, Herman and Clarence Mitchell; and a niece Sandra M. Farrar.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bruce Johnson with burial following in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
