Arkansas Governor, U.S. Senator. He attended the University of Arkansas and studied law at Vanderbilt University and Cumberland University. He served as prosecuting attorney of the Fifth Judicial District of Arkansas, (1892-96) and was Arkansas Attorney General, (1898-1900). In 1900, he was elected the 20th Governor of Arkansas, serving until 1907 and was the first Arkansas Governor to serve more than two consecutive terms. After his term he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1907 and served until his death at age 50.
