BIO: WADE CROSS BENNETT:
Wade was the second child and second son of Josephine (Hill) Bennett and Benjamin Bennett. He was born March 9, 1871, in West Virginia, probably Jackson County. He married Sarah Minerva Smith. He died rather suddenly October 28, 1939. They had five children as listed:
1.LATHA THOMAS BENNETT born June 14, 1901, 2. LOUISE BENNETT born May 23, 1903
3. HAZEL ODELL BENNETT, born September 9, 1904,
4. SCOTT BENNETT, born May 18, 1906,
5. GEORGE ERIA BENNETT, born July 22, 1910.

The following is words of Carl Enoch Hill....
Wade engaged in farming and logging. Wade was regarded as the greatest ox driver in this section and prehaps had no superior in this respect anywhere. Logging with four or five yoke of oxen together was not uncommon thing for Wade Bennett.

Carl Enoch Hill visited Wade and Mrs. Bennett at their country home, some four miles from Arbuckle, West Virginia in September 1938. Wade had a yoke of spendidly matched oxen which he yoked up and had perform for us. They really performed too; part of the time over a hill and around a bend out of his sight but still in range of his voice. Carl had a picture of this yoke of oxen, Wade gave Carl an ox shoe which he prized highly. Wade died rather suddenly October 28, 1939.

In the 1900 Mason County, West Virginia census in Union District, Wade is living in the home of his sister Martha.
Listed in the 1910 Mason County census in Union District on page 206b.

Listed as a 48 year old farmer in the 1920 Mason County census in Union District on Roll 1962, Book 2 and page 191b. His wife is Sarah M. age 49. In the home are Lathy T. age 18, Louise age 16, Hazel O. age 15, Scott Smith age 13 and George E. age 9.

Listed as a 59 year old farmer in the 1930 Mason County census in Union District on Roll 2541, Book 2 and page 68b on Thirteen Creek Road. His wife is Sarah age 59. In the home are Scott age 23 and George age 19.

Wade lived four miles from Arbuckle, West Virginia in 1938. He was a farmer and also did some logging. He was regarded as the greatest ox driver in that section of the country and logged with as many as four or five yoke of oxen at a time. He was able to make the oxen perform there tasks even out of the line of sight by voice command.
Wade died suddenly on October 28, 1939.
