MCGOWAN - MRS. MABLE RODD McGOWAN of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the age of 93 years. Born at Fort Pitt, Saskatchewan September 29, 1914 to Albert and Premilla Slinn, Mable received her education in several Saskatchewan communities. She attended high school in Lewvan and Regina, and normal school in Regina from 1934 to 1935.

In 1937 she married James (Jim) McGowan, a rancher in the Killdeer, Saskatchewan district. Mable taught school in the Killdeer area for seven years, and was postmistress for thirteen years.

In 1973 Mable and Jim moved to Rockglen, and in 1989 to Moose Jaw.

Mable was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1991, one daughter Grace English in 2004, a grandson Wayne Rotariu in 2008, five sisters-Marjorie Damon (Jim), Viola Bonney (Bob), Eva Gray (Alex), Florence Thune (Ed), and Pearl Slinn-and one brother Bill Slinn (Frances).

Mable is survived by her children-Wesley McGowan (Ellen), Moose Jaw; Clarice Rotariu (John), Weyburn; John McGowan, Saskatoon; eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. A further service will take place at the Killdeer Community Hall at 3:30 p.m. on the same day, with burial to follow in the Killdeer Cemetery.

For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, S7K 2H8 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2.
