San Diego, CA – Brian Keith Maidrand passed away January 13th, 2013 of natural causes. He was 45 years old.
Brian is preceded in death by his children, Alexander and Jason Maidrand (2003). He is survived by his wife Clarisa Hernandez, son Ian Maidrand, mother Helen Maidrand, brothers Mitchell Maidrand and sister-in-law Darlene, Scott Maidrand and sister-in-law Pamela, sister Michelle Mckeen and brother-in-law Steve. Brian also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Brian was born on February 5th, 1967 in Santa Barbara, California to Helen Swisher and Robert Maidrand Jr. He graduated Fort Bragg High School in 1985, where upon graduation enlisted in the United States Army. He completed Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1985. In 1986, Brian became an Army Ranger, a select class of soldiers who are trained to face highly dangerous and stressful combat actions. During his 20 years of military service (4 years active duty, and 16 years as a reserve officer) Brian received numerous awards and commendations including: Army Achievement Medals in 1988 and 1989, the Army Commendation Medal in 1989, the California Commendation Medal in 1990, the Army National Guard ROTC Scholarship and the George. C. Marshall ROTC Leadership Award in 1995. Brian was also a graduate of San Diego State University in 1995, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences. In April of 2005, Captain Brian Maidrand received the Meritorious Service Medal, where it was written:
To Captain Brian K. Maidrand, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade, 40th Infantry Division, For exceptionally meritorious service from February 1985 to February 2005, CPT Maidrand has executed his duties including but not limited to Company Commander, Assistant Brigade S-3 and planning the Peace Shield Ukraine Peacekeeping Mission, CPT Maidrand's exceptional ability along with his untiring selfless dedication to his mission and the welfare of soldiers continues to leave a legacy in everyone's life he has touched. CPT Maidrand's outstanding performance reflects credit upon himself, the 40th Infantry Division, the California Army National Guard, and the United States Army.
In addition to Brian's distinguished military career, he was also a devoted father to his children (Alexander, Jason, & Ian), as well as a marathon runner, dog rescuer, March of Dimes fundraiser, generous neighbor, loyal friend, and adoring husband.
A public visitation for Brian will be held at El Camino Memorial – Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121 on Sunday, January 20th from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., with services to follow on Monday, January 21st, at 10:00 a.m.
