In eternal remembrance of my third great grandfather, Prisoner of War, Battery H (Holmes' Battery) First West Virginia Volunteer Light Artillery (1864-1865). He does not appear in the interment records of the Short Creek Cemetery, but per his Civil War Pension File, he is interred at Short Creek, and a stone was erected by the United States government. He does have a tombstone card provided on ancestry.com under Headstones Provided for Deceased Union Civil War Veterans, 1879-1903. The headstone was supplied by Sheldon & Sons, West Rutland, Vermont. I have searched for the tombstone at Short Creek, but I haven't yet been able to find it, unfortunately. As of April 2021, his stone has been found!
