Actress. She began her film career in 1918 after meeting her future husband, Eric von Stroheim, who was the noted Hollywood film director. They married in the early 1920s; had a son Joseph Erich von Stroheim in 1922; and were separated about 1936. Appearing frequently in magazine photos with her husband at her side, her fame came more from being the director’s third wife than her acting abilities. Her filmography only includes five films, in which she often appeared as an extra and sometimes unnamed. In 1919 she was listed in the credits in the silent film “Blinded Husbands,” which was directed, written, and produced by her husband. He also had a leading role in the film. She played herself in two TV documentaries. Released in 1979, “The Man You Loved to Hate” was her late husband’s biography. Release in 1980, the other was the history of the early film industry, “Hollywood.” In both, she was listed in the credits.
