After Hannah and their infant daughter were killed by cholera in Richmond VA in 1849, Thomas headed west to make his fortune in the "Gold Rush" leaving his 2 other children Lizzy (Mary Elizabeth - 1842) and Thomas Jefferson (1844) to be raised by their widowed grandmother Dolly (Stott) Howarth. He never returned for his family and was reported killed in an Indian attack.
His siblings were: Ellen (1807), Mary (1808), John (1811) and James (1813)
