George R. Bartek, 85, of Saylorsburg, formerly of Belfast and Miller Heights, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at home. Born: in Fountain Hill on July 22, 1926, he was a son of the late Andrew and Jennie Lorince Bartek. Personal: He was the husband of the late Esther Frey Bartek with whom he shared 41 years of marriage prior to her death in 1989. George was a graduate of Liberty High School, and later honorably served in the Marine Corps 2nd Marine Division during World War II. Prior to retiring in the early 90s, he worked in the maintenance department of Sure Fit for more than 40 years. Additionally, George worked part-time as a patrolman for the Township of Bethlehem. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed snowmobiling at the family cabin in Pecks Pond where many good times were had, especially at the Lucky Dot Hotel. He also enjoyed memorable trips with his grandson to Pulaski, NY for salmon fishing. Memberships: He was a member of the Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Co. and the Miller Heights Independent Citizens Club. Survivors: his loving family: son Robert Bartek with whom he resided; daughter Georgene Lerch of Pen Argyl; grandson Joseph Lerch and his wife Angela of Wind Gap; great-grandson Lucas; brother Joseph Bartek of Bethlehem Township; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife Esther, he was preceded in death by brothers: Bernard, Charles, and twin brothers, Andrew and Robert; as well as three sisters: Catherine Bartek, Bernadine Blum, and Marie Oehler. Services: will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the George G. Bensing Funeral Home, Inc., 2165 Community Drive, Route 946, Village of Moorestown-Bath, PA 18014. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Mount Eaton Church Cemetery, Saylorsburg. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of George to his family in care of the funeral home.
