Carla Esther Jensen, the daughter of Jens and Mette (Jensen) Petersen, was born on September 17, 1915 on a farm near Hardy, Nebraska. She passed away on January 13, 2013 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home, Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 97 years, 3 months, 27 days.

She was baptized and confirmed and married in Bethany Lutheran Church south of Ruskin. Carla attended school through the 10th grade in a one-room school in Nuckolls County, afterwhich she helped out at home and worked for various other families, cleaning, cooking and caring for children. Her last job of this kind was for a family in Omaha as a young woman, in later years, she was a cook in the Republic school system and worked in the Brodstone Memorial hospital.

Carla married Harley R. Jensen on May 24, 1937. They spent their married life in the communities of Denver, Colorado, Hardy and Ruskin, Nebraska and rural Republic, Kansas.

She was active as a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for 47 years and was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy. She and Harley were active members in the Danish Brotherhood and enjoyed socializing with friends and traveling many times with friends to various places in the United States and they enjoyed one trip to Denmark.

Carla lived most of her life on a farm. She loved working with her hands, cooking, canning, baking and sewing, and especially entertaining friends and family. She especially enjoyed having her family around her, and delighted in her grandchildren, and more recently, her great grandchildren. Her home was always a welcoming place for all who entered.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harley on June 13, 1999; two brothers, Magnus and Ira and her sister, Sarah, and one great-grandson Brandon Maslo.

She is survived by her son Merwin and wife Sharon of Wamego, Kansas their children Scott (Ann), Elliott (Sallie), Trevor (Edie) and Erika (Matt) Schoenbeck, her daughter Janice Ostergaard and husband Denton of Council Bluff, Iowa and their children, Mary (John) Masio, Craig Ostergaard, and Carla (Toby) Ingram, Eleven great grandchildren, Eric, Sarah, Whitney, Peyton, Logan and Allie Jensen, Emma, Bennett and Skylar Schoenbeck, Kelsey, Tarrin and Brady Masio, Christian and Cameron Ostergaard, and Mason and Madeline Ingram, one great, great granddaughter, Brylee Maslo, two sisters-in-law, Bernice Jensen and Clara Madsen of Eugene, Oregon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
