Services for Herbert O. Scholer, 78, Portland, are Friday at 12:30 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Secor officiating. He died Monday at Ball Memorial Hospital.
Born in Jay County to Carl and Zola (Adney) Scholer, he graduated from Portland High School in 1951 and was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was preceded in death on Nov. 27, 2004, by his wife Patricia Louise Smith, whom he married on May 9, 1959.
Retiring from Portland Forge in 1993 after 25 years of service, he was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Portland.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Elena) Vogel, Cicero, and Mrs. Tom (Sara) Runkle, Lafayette; and three granddaughters.
Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Salamonia Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 211.
