Mrs. Cope died on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the home of her son Larry. The daughter of the late Thomas Trimmier Wall and Alberta Greene Wall and widow of the late Alfred Morgan "Whitey" Cope, she was born on December 25, 1912, in Spartanburg County, SC. The fourth of eight children, she was the last surviving sibling. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, she sang in the choir for 55 years and was a member of the Wesley Fidelity Sunday School class and the Magnifier Choir. She was a devoted, compassionate, kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend.
Mrs. Cope grew up at Epworth Children's Home where she finished high school and received an academics scholarship to Columbia College where she graduated with a degree in education. She returned to Epworth School to teach and later taught at Rosewood, Arden, and St. Andrews (H.B. Rhame) Elementary. She retired after having taught for almost thirty years. She was a wonderful teacher who taught principles as well as academics and was able to touch the lives of many children.
