Hiram Doyle Mills Jr., 83, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 9, 2013, after an extended illness. Doyle loved the church and served as an elder for more than 40 years including Macedonia, Darby Drive and CrossPoint Churches of Christ. He taught Bible classes and made many mission trips to Greece, Cypress, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, the Caribbean Islands and Canada spreading and teaching the Word of God. That was his life!
He served on the Board of Directors at Mars Hill Bible School, was a charter member of the Endowment Association and president of the FTA and Booster's Club. He was a graduate of Coffee High School, a Korean War veteran, a retired U.S. Postal Carrier and an avid supporter of Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley McDaniel Mills; one son, Frank Doyle (Summer) Mills; two daughters, Leigh Ann (Randy) Wells, Leesa (Don) Ezell; grandchildren, Wade (Allison) Wells, Jared (Keli) Mills, Lauren (Jordan) Turbeville, Amy Wells, Carter Wells, Mac Ezell and Mia Ezell; great-grandchildren, Canaan Wells, Wyatt Wells, Westin Wells, Hudson Turbeville and Lainey Mills; sister, Nena (Norman) Hargett; sister-in-law, Frankie Kerr; and nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. Doyle and Nina Lovelace Mills, Sheffield.
Visitation will be from 10:30-1, with the funeral at 1, at Cross Point Church of Christ Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013. Officiating will be Frank Mills and Randy Wells. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with military funeral honors.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Lucas Orr and Mike Kilpatrick. Honorary pallbearers are Clifford Miles, Gerald Briggs, Skipper Thomas, Burley Phillips, Larry Young, Steve Williams, Elmer G. Martin Jr., Cross Point Elders and Ambassadors of Love.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cross Point Church of Christ or Mars Hill Bible School.
