Actress. Born Alva White in Paterson, New Jersey, she began her career in Hollywood as a script girl for Joseph Von Sternberg and later as a secretary for Charlie Chaplin. Signed to First National Studios, her film debut was in "Sea Tiger" (1927). Dubbed as the "Jazz Baby" she appeared in over forty movies including "Show Girl" (1928), "Broadway Babies" (1929), "Show Girl in Hollywood" (1930), "Sweet Music" (1935), "Girls Town" (1942) and "Flamingo Road" (1949), her final film.
