Served in Company I 41st Regiment Alabama volunteers. Was at Appamatox Courthouse in Virginia with General Lee when he surrendered. Came to Bell Co., Texas in 1877, settling in the Sugarloaf community, which is present-day Fort Hood. His grave, along with his wife's and numerous others were transferred to Killeen from Sugarloaf in 1942 when Fort Hood was constructed.
