Richard Charles "Dick" Bakkum, son of Clifford and Anna Haas Bakkum was born December 23, 1932, in Onalaska, Wisconsin. He departed this life Thursday, February 21, 2008, on his farm near Seymour, Mo., at the age of 75 years, one month, and 28 days. On December 17, 1966, Richard was united in marriage to Delores Arlene Dickson and together they shared 40 years until her passing on February 9, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include three sons, Richard Bakkum Jr., of Buffalo, Mo., Randal Bakkum and wife Sherry, and Ronald Bakkum and wife Cindy, all of Greenville, Texas, four grandchildren, Ryan Bakkum, Jennifer Odeneal, Brandon Bakkum and Brian Bakkum; two great-grandchildren, Odie and Archie Odeneal; a brother, James Bakkum and wife Pat, of Houston, Minn.; two sisters, Mary Smith and husband Joe, and Kathleen Iverson and husband Don, all of Mtn. Home, Ark.; four brothers -in-law, Jack Dickson and wife Juanita and Bill Dickson and wife Barbara, all of Seymour, Mo., Keith Dickson and wife Angie, of Rogersville, Mo., and Orville Clift, of Marshfield, Mo.; four sisters-in-law, Nadine Sartin, Bessie Dickson, and Ida Dickson, all of Seymour, Mo., Lorene Dickson, of Independence, Mo.; a number of nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Richard was born in Wisconsin and traveled to several locations before settling in Seymour in 1970, where he and his wife owned and operated a rabbit farm as well as the Family Recreation Center for thirteen years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Richard appreciated the outdoors and was an avid gardener. He loved the wildlife around his home and enjoyed feeding doughnuts to the deer. In his spare time he also enjoyed fishing. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour, Mo. Burial will follow in Good Cemetery, North of Seymour, under direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time in the funeral home.
