Mrs. Rachel Hawk, Pioneer Resident, Dies At Aubrey
Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Hawk, a pioneer settler of the Chinn Chapel community, who died Thursday afternoon at the home of her son, Dr. John M. Hawk of Aubrey, were held Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the First Christian Church of Aubrey, conducted by Rev. V.M. O'Hair and Rev. W.P. Davis. Six grandsons were pallbearers. Burial was in Chinn's Chapel cemetery.
Mrs. Hawk is survived by eight children, a daughter, Mrs. Ella Bradford of Denton, and seven sons, the one named with whom she had made her home the past year, Ed Hawk of San Antonio, Lee Hawk of Stamford and Lish, Claud, Charles and Carl Hawk at the home place near Chinn Chapel. She was a sister of Wayne Robertson of Frisco and of L.C. Robertson of Lubbock, Mrs. W.C. Pearson is a niece and she had other relatives here. Nineteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren survive.
Mrs. Hawk was born in Arkansas in 1847 and came to Denton County with her father and several brothers when 14 years of age. She had lived in the Chinn Chapel community 55 years. On coming to Texas she made her home with an older brother, Jim Robertson, until her marriage to the late William Hawk who died in 1915. She was a member of the Christian Church.
Those going to the services from here included Mr. and Mrs. William Pearson, Mrs. Bradford and daughter, Mrs. Maud Roberts, Homer Edwards and Mmes. Lawson and Bart Robertson. Messrs and Mmes.W.J. George and A. W. Robertson of Frisco also attended.
