Daniel Bumphus Coleman, 80, of 115 Glenaire Rd., husband of Hazel Glenn Coleman, died April 5, 1995 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Saluda, he was a son of the late Andrew Thornton and Carrie McCarty Coleman. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was also a graduate of Clemson College. He was a member of the first bowl game team at Clemson College.

He was a teacher in Honea Path, and he also taught and coached football at McCants Junior High SchooL He was director of recreation for the city of Anderson for over 30 years. The recreation department was named in his honor, "The Coleman Recreation Center." He was a former captain in the National Guards in Anderson. He was also a member and former deacon of New Prospect Baptist Church where he was a former teacher of the Berean Sunday School Class.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are a daughter, Dennis Coleman of Anderson; a brother, Alfred Coleman of Saluda; and a sister, Grace C. Force of Saluda.

Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. L.E. Greene and the Rev. George I. Kirkland officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children's Home. P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, S.C. 29648, or to a charity of one's choice.
