CARROLL ISAAC ALGER, 88, died at 6 p.m. Jan. 4, 1998, at his son's residence in Ada.

He was born Feb. 4, 1909, in Mound City, Mo., to John and Rebecca Wampler Alger. On Oct 12, 1931, he married Gertrude Catherine Smith, who died April 2, 1974. On Sept. 22, 1975, he married Lida B. Kimmel, who died March 27, 1983. On July 27, 1985, he married Sarah Hile, who died July 29, 1997.

Mr. Alger retired in 1976 after 20 years with J. R. Watkins Co. where he was a distributor and salesman. He had worked in sales from 1930 to 1956 with Swift & Co. He was a member of Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren and was active in the Dunkirk Lions Club. He volunteered for many winter months with the Kokokoh Hunger Mission, Kaneohe, Hawaii, and was a volunteer for Johnny Appleseed Park District. He enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include three sons, Larry (Nancy) Alger of Lima, Dennis (Mary Ann) Alger of Portland, Ore., and Joe (Sue) Alger of Ada; two stepsons, Richard Kimmel of Omaha, Neb., and Dana Kimmel of Arlington; two daughters, Betty (Richard) Billingsley of Omaha, Neb., and Avyce (Tom) White of Lima; two stepdaughters, Rachel (Richard) Kimmel White of Toledo and Sharon (Gary) Hile Griffith of Lima; two sisters, Bessie Miller of Lima and Bertha Huber of Elida; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Hoake.

Memorial services will begin at 7:30 p.m. today at Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Martin Moyer and Russ Thompson will officiate. His body will be donated to The Ohio State University.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin Hospice Care, 917 E. Columbus, Suite C., Kenton, OH 43326.
