Jane Coleman Allender Akin, 72, of Old Greensburg Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at her home. Daughter of the late Homer M. Allender and Geneva Bourne Allender, she was born on Sept. 10, 1930 in Fayette County, Ky., and was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church and attended Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Akin graduated from the Louisville General Hospital School of Nursing in 1953, and was a nurse for 50 years. She was an avid gardener. Akin was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Greensburg Chapter #232 and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. She was married to Russell Akin on Feb. 14, 1958. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters and two sons and their spouses; Robert and Jewel Akin of Greensburg, Melissa and Elliott Mallard of Orange Park, Fla., Merry Beth and Brad Gold of Greeneville, N.C., and Rocky Akin of Lexington; nine grandchildren; Niki Akin and Andrew Akin, both of Greensburg, Matthew Mallard, Jared Mallard and Elliott Mallard II, all of Orange Park, Fla., Carrie Gold, Evan Gold and Mason Gold, all of Greeneville, N.C., and Rachael Akin of Campbellsville; one sister, Bonnie Toler of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother; Gloria Janes, George Allender and Genevieve Watson. Funeral was at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Ray Hollenbach and Ray Roberts officiated. Pallbearers were Fred Clem, Brad Gold, Gary Levi, Elliott Mallard, Jeff Rogers and Roger Smith.
