"EDMESTON - Hugh Hume, aged fifty-three, a respected dairy farmer passed away at the Bassett hospital, Cooperstown, on Wednesday, May 28th, after an illness of only two days. Monday evening he went after the cows for the night's chores and when he did not return as soon as usual his wife went to look for him and found him unconscious, having suffered a stroke. He was removed to the hospital in the evening and suddenly grew worse until the end on Wednesday. Hugh Hume was born in Edmeston, on April 3, 1894, the son of Thomas Hume and Clara (Wheeler) Hume. He received his education in the local schools and had lived his entire life in this section. On June 19, 1912 he was united in marriage with Miss Blanche Keith, who survives, with two sons, Donald and Hubert Hume, one daughter, Mrs. Aage Holk and four grandchildren, all of Edmeston; a brother, Robert Hume, of Ilion, a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Telfer of Randell, and several nieces and nephews ... The bearers were Ernie Russ, Edward Bailey, Walter Nearing, Charles Rathbun, Lauren Simmons and Floyd Rose. The burial was made in the Edmeston Union cemetery. The many beautiful floral tributes attested to the esteem in which he was held by his family, friends and associates and were a comfort to the sorrowing relatives."
