Henry Darwin Collins, age 91 of Oneonta, formerly of Gadsden, AL., passed away on December 31, 2012 at 8:45 PM at his residence. He was born on November 20, 1921 to Henry W. and Clara Floyd Collins of Baxley, Georgia who have preceded him in death along with his wife Sarah Oliver Collins, and his sisters Mildred Fort, Clarice Crosby, Evelyn McLain and Mary Mell Osborne. Survivors include his sons Roger Collins (Debbie) of Union Grove and Randall Collins (Debbie) of Blakely, GA and daughter Renea Lamb (Tim) of Oneonta, AL. Grandchildren are Traci Jones (Roudy) of Gadsden, Nick Collins (Megan) of Headland, AL, Kristin Pettey (Daniel) of Tuscaloosa, Logan Lamb (Mallory) of Snead and Maegen Lamb of Oneonta, AL., five great grandchildren Tucker Jones of Gadsden, Sara Kaitlyn Pettey of Tuscaloosa, Greer Collins and Camden Collins both of Headland and Isabella Pettey of Tuscaloosa, AL., brother Charles Collins (Annetta) of Ashville, NC and sister Jean Fordham of Jessup, GA. Mr. Collins was a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church, was a 65 year member Grand Lodge of F&AM of Alabama and retired from Revere Copper and Brass of Scottsboro as a sheet metal worker. He was a WWII Veteran; served in the South Pacific (All Major Campaigns); 185th Chemical Processing Company and Technician Fifth Grade - Corporal. He was the recipient of the Asian Pacific Campaign Medal (New Guinea and Philippines), American Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Medal Ribbon WWII.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 11AM from the Chapel of Lemley Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Barnett officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Collins will be held Wednesday evening, January 2, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Lemley Funeral Home and on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 8 AM until service time. Pallbearers will be Nick Collins, Logan Lamb, Daniel Pettey, Melvin Fort, Troy Pace, Kelvin Hendrix and Justin O'Dell.
