Anthony arrived in the USA in 1870, Married Minnie Adams in 1874, they were married for 42 yrs.

Anthony Esser aged 70, a highly respected German resident of the city, died at his home, 65 North Grant street, yesterday afternoon, following a two weeks' illness of pneumonia.
Mr. Esser was born in Germany in 1846 and came to this country at the age of 20, settling in this city, where he since resided.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: John, Anthony, Mrs. Anna Burke, Henry, Fred, Carl, Frank and Arthur. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs J. Griesmer, of this city.
A double funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock, when Mr. Esser and his infant granddaughter (Sophia) who died several days ago, will be buried from the family home, 65 Coal street.
Services will be conducted at the house by Rev. L. Lindenstruth, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery.

Less then one month later 13 Feb 1916, son of Anthony and father of Sophia, Carl died of Myocarditis-inflammation of the heart.
