Jacob Bales was born the 15th of 1st mo 1777, a son of William and Rachel (Green) Bales. His family were members of the Society of Friends and moved to Tennessee when he was young. He married in January 1795 in Jefferson Co., TN, Sarah Mulvaney, who joined Friends by request at Lost Creek Meeting in Tennessee in 1803. Jacob seems to have had a temper, as evidenced by his condemning his misconduct at Lost Creek in 1801. His misconduct was striking a fellow man. He and Sarah moved to Indiana about 1816. He and his family were members at New Garden and Springfield Meetings in Indiana, where Jacob served on various meeting committees. His death occurred on 10mo 17, 1855.
