Mrs. Vernie Rogers Armstrong Allen went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 30, 2012, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
She was the third child of five children born to the Reverend Elbert and Mrs. Ruby Rogers. She was born at home, on July 1, 1940, in Brunswick County. She graduated from Bolivia High School.
She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 50 years.
Our mother was a very talented seamstress, gardener, cook, and family historian. Her delight was always having her family around her. Her life was Christ-centered and she led by example. She spent hours studying and memorizing God's Word.
She is survived by her husband, Noah Woodruff Allen, Jr., four daughters, Joni Armstrong Sloter, and husband Eric, Janet Armstrong Hill, and husband Scott, Kimrey Armstrong Hilton, and husband Ed, Charlotte Armstrong Safrit, and husband Mike, and grandchildren, Annie, Adam, Laurel, and Graham Sloter, Madeline and Michael Safrit, and Callie and Fulton Hill. Also surviving are a brother, William Curtis Rogers, sisters Lois Rogers Gay, Betty Rogers Martin, Rebecca Rogers, brother-in-law, Tommy Allen, sister-in-law, Mary Beth Poff, many nieces and nephews, step-son Noah Woodruff Allen, III, and step-daughter, Wendy Allen Savage.
Funeral services will be held on Wed., Jan. 2, 2013 at 11:00 a. m., at Calvary Baptist Church, Wilmington, NC, and will be conducted by her nephew Rev. Clayton O'Neal Rivenbark and son-in-law, Rev. Eric P. Sloter. Burial will be held immediately following the service at Town Creek Baptist Church, Leland, NC.
