Son of Laura Belle Neel Barnhart Stinebaugh (b. 1876) and Irvin D. Barnhart (1875-1961).

World War I Veteran. Corporal, 59th Machine Gun Company. Dates of service: 8/6/1917-2/24/1920. At the time he completed his draft registration, he was listed as a repairman of motor boats. He was described as tall, with a medium build and with brown hair and eyes.

He married Myrtle Louise Flowers (1897-1940) around 1920. He was the father of Robert Joseph, Louis, Marion Ambrose, and Mary Bernadette.

Second great-grandson of Revolutionary War veterans Philip Barnhart (1757-1843) and John Holt (1756-1831), and third great-grandson of Colonel John Henry Antes (1736-1820) who in 1777 built Antes Fort in Lycoming Co., PA.
