Michael Hensley, 16, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his residence, as the result of a house fire that also claimed the lives of his siblings, Savannah Coon and Alivia Coon. Michael was in the 10th grade at New Tech High School in Sioux Falls.

Michael Cristian Hensley was born March 25, 1997 at Martinez, CA. At the age of two, he moved with his family to Sioux Falls where he lived for a short time before moving to New York. He attended public school in Whitehall, NY and was involved in numerous activities such as Boy Scouts and softball. While playing softball, he was coached by his lifelong favorite coach, Mr. Hoagland. Michael's favorite school teacher was Mrs. Hoagland. He was a brilliant child, and was described by his educators as one of the best and brightest they had ever seen. One of his most significant talents was that he was extremely creative. After graduation, his desire was to pursue a career in medical robotics or video game design. Michael had a scientific and logical mind, and tended to view life in a very advanced manner.

At age 13, Michael was diagnosed with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. This affliction affected his coordination, speech, thought process and social skills. He also had some problems with hand-eye coordination. He was a very quiet and reserved person, but inwardly was filled with love and joy. He was a passionate, caring individual that held his family and friends close to his heart.

Grateful for having shared his life are his parents, David and Rhiannon White; grandparents, Tom and Cindy Boggs, Greg and Carol Hensley; great-grandparents, Bob and Shirlene Eberhard, Ethel and Sterling Harrington; aunt, Shannon Coon; and cousins, Trevor, Gabriel and Tyler Hurlburt.

Funeral services for Michael, Savannah and Alivia will begin 10:00 am Monday, December 31, 2012, at Celebrate Community Church, 1000 S. Sycamore Avenue. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1:00 Sunday afternoon, with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue
