Died in the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic. One of the brave, unfortunate men who went down with the largest and most luxurious ocean liner of all time, the Titanic. A University of Southern California graduate in 1907, Clark was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and took part in several student activities. He and his wife were traveling first class headed for Los Angeles when the disaster occurred. Walter had once served as manager of the Los Alamitos Sugar Co., and was the son of J. Ross Clark, Vice President of the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad. Mrs. Clark (Virginia McDowell) survived the sinking of the Titanic and was rescued by the Carpathia. She passed away in 1958.Clark was a University of Southern California graduate in 1907 and a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, taking part in several student activities. Virginia passed away in 1958.) The former Mrs. Clark later reported on the Titanic tragedy. She stated that she and her husband had bene standing on the deck talking with Mr. and Mrs. Astor and, Mr. and Mrs. Straus when they were informed that for their safety, women and children were being loaded into the lifeboats. Mrs. Clark assisted in getting a number of women and children into the lifeboats before joining Mrs. Astor in one of them. They tried to get Mrs. Straus to join them but she refused to leave her husband. Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Astor were among the few to make it to safety. In May of 1912, she filed an application for letters of administration of the estate of her late husband, an estate valued at $80,000. In 1937, Clark's mother Miriam donated the land and money for the Walter Clark Memorial Community Church to be built in Long Beach, Californa. T he church is now known as the Lakewood Village Community Church.
