As a young woman, Marion was a pilot who taught instrumental flying during World War II. She was a devoted mother who relished spending time with her family and a devout Catholic at St. Thomas More Church. Marion was a great cook, an avid gardener and a tireless volunteer in her community. She loved music and she and Dave were always seen as the best couple on the dance floor. After retiring as a bookkeeper, she enjoyed travel and the beach was her favorite destination. She leaves to cherish her memory five children, David Anderson, Jr. and wife, Mary of Roanoke, Stephen Anderson and wife, Renee of Lynchburg, Marjorie Dorman and husband, Jim of Forest, Ann Tretiak and husband, Stan of Richmond and Betty Burch and husband, Terry of Forest; a brother, James W. Elliott, Jr. of Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Marilyn K. Elliott of Roanoke; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Heritage Funeral Service 427 Graves Mill Rd. Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Dr. Tom Bryant. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Marion Anderson to the ForThe Cure at Komen Central Virginia, 1433 Johnston Willis Dr. Richmond, VA 23235.
