Deborah Ann Smith, the fourth of eight daughters, was born in 1828 to Needham and Ardelia Smith, staunch members of the Methodist Church. On 29 April 1848 she married James A. Roquemore, a farmer and supply minister in the Methodist Church, based in Fort Valley, Georgia. She was his third wife. All five of the children from his previous marriages were in the household of which she was now mistress. William was probably Deborah's nephew.] James and Deborah Ann Roquemore had two sons: John Talley in 1860 and Thomas Allen in 1862. Deborah was widowed in 1862. Reportedly, James was killed when a pine tree was felled on him.
After the war Deborah married James D. McDonald who lived in Laurens County when he married Delane "Laney" Fields. The Southern Christian Advocate newspaper reports his marriage to Deborah Roquemore by the Reverend W. W. Stewart on 15 Oct 1868 in Houston County, Georgia. Their union was blessed with two children, Willie and Georgia. Deborah was widowed for a second time about 20 Aug 1870, the date of death given for James McDonald on the grave marker he shares with his first wife in the Jeffersonville Cemetery, Jeffersonville, Twiggs County, Georgia (Find A Grave Memorial# 28859228).
In the 1880 Census of Upper 11th, Houston County, Georgia, Deborah is enumerated as the widowed D. A. McDonald, 51, keeping house with her son, T. A. Rockmon, 17, a farmer, and her daughter, Georgia McDonald, 9.
In Houston County, son Thomas marries Georgia Emma Bryant on 17 Jan 1884; daughter Georgia marries Chester Wilkinson on 15 Jan 1893. Deborah dies on 10 Sep 1895. Between these dates she moves to Schley County. The Schley County News reports her death on Thursday, September 12th 1895.
