Author. A graduate of East High School in East Cleveland, Robertson attended Harvard and Western Reserve Universities. He worked as a reporter and a columnist for several Cleveland newspapers, including the Plain Dealer, was a radio and television talk show host in the late 1970s, and did movie reviews for Cleveland's WKYC-TV. He wrote a total of eighteen novels, most weaving a fictional backdrop around historical events. His best-known work is a trilogy centered around the character of Morris Bird III. The last of the trio: "The Greatest Thing that Almost Happened" was adapted for a 1977 movie starring Jimmy Walker and James Earl Jones. Many of Robertson's novels take place in the fictional town of Paradise Falls, Ohio, or involved characters connected with that town. His 1968 novel "Paradise Falls" follows the town and its inhabitants from the end of the American Civil War up to the eve of the 20th century. He was inducted into the Press Club of Cleveland s Hall of Fame in 1992 and was a recipient of the Society of Professional Journalists Life Achievement Award in 1995. In 1991, he was presented the Mark Twain Award from the Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature.
