Ruth Virginia (Carlsen) Hale, 89, of 90 Wakefield St., died Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Gaffney Home in Rochester.

Born Jan. 18, 1919 in Milton, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Olaf and Bernice (Crosby) Carlsen.

Ruth has lived most of her life in Rochester after moving from Farmington. She was a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Rochester.

She was a long time member of the Rochester Grange and the Business and Professional Women's Club in Rochester. She was the office manager at the U.S. Department of Agriculture office in Rochester for 35 years.

Members of her family include her stepchildren, Priscilla Murphy of Greenville, R.I., William Hale and his wife Patricia of Madbury, and Harry Hale of Rochester; her sister-in-law, Shirley Carlsen of Farmington; her niece Virginia Gray and husband Robert of Farmington; her nephew John Carlsen and wife Colleen of Somersworth; and many step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband Richard Hale Sr., her stepson Richard Hale Jr., and her brother Everett Carlsen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gaffney Home, 90 Wakefield St., Rochester, N.H.

Family and friends may visit from 10-11am Wednesday, Jul 2, 2008 in the chapel of the R. M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester, NH 03867.
