Death Takes Ex-Agent

Alexander D. Charlton, 1024 S.W. Davenport street, a resident of Portland since 1884, died Wednesday at the Tacoma Northern Pacific hospital where he had been confined the last month.

Mr. Charlton was born November 15, 1859, in Hamilton, Canada, and came to Portland in 1884 as western passenger agent for the Northern Pacific railway. He rose to general passenger agent and retired in 1932.

That same year Mr. Charlton moved to San Francisco to become general manager of Transcontinental Passenger association and remained until 1942. He then returned to his home here.

He was a life member of Multnomah club, honorary life member of Portland Elks and honorary life member of the American Association of Traveling Passenger Agents.

A son, Howard C., and one grandson survive.
