OCKEL, Paul Passed away suddenly on December 17, 2012 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Jean, treasured father of Mark Rockel, Jeff (Claudia) Rockel, Dale (Silvia) Rockel, Melanie (Mark) Eberlin, and Todd (Stephanie) Rockel. Cherished grandfather of Amy, Krysta, Steven, Kaleena, Marissa, Danica and great-grandfather of Emerson and Scarlette. Son of the late John and Agnes Rockel and brother of Bruce (Barb) Rockel, and Sylvia (Lawrence McCutcheon) Rockel. Paul spent 18 years at the KW Record during which time he managed to save enough holidays to start building the home they still live in. In 1962 he moved on to United Group of Funds as a mutual fund sales person, winning sales awards within the first six months. In 1968 Paul started Regal Capital Planners, a company that went on to become Canada's largest independent mutual fund dealer, with offices across all of Canada. Paul developed many lasting friendships through his "Regal Family" as he loved to refer to it as. Paul helped his father build the family cottage at Belwood Lake when he was 15 years old during World War II, building it with found wood and second hand nails. He has enjoyed summers there up to the present year, sailing as often as he could. Other passions were flying his plane, and riding his Honda Goldwing up until this past summer. His 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren gave him great joy. Jean and Paul were married for 61 years and during that time travelled the world, and even managed to enjoy 43 cruises. Paul and Jean square danced together weekly for the last 36 years, something they loved so much. He attended Historic St. Paul's Lutheran Church for his entire life and taught Sunday school for over 30 years. Paul was greatly respected and loved, and will be dearly missed. Visitation will be at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home , 621 King St. W., Kitchener, Ontario N2G 1C7 on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Historic St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 137 Queen St. S., Kitchener, Ontario N2G 1W2 at 11 a.m. with viewing one hour prior. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Breslau, ON. Donations in Paul's memory may be made to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief or the Commission to Every Nation-Tytoo Garden's Children's Foundation.
