11:00aAdele M. ("Del") Anderson, 84, Forrest, IL, died on December 15, 2012 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.
She was born on January 25, 1928 in Kansas City, MO. She came to Forrest in May, 1928 as the adopted daughter of Dr. & Mrs. C.G. Shaddle. On June 5, 1948, she married Francis Anderson. He died April 4, 1990.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the United Methodist Church of Forrest led by Pastor Ivy Silas. Burial will be in Forrest Twp. Cemetery, Forrest. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 10:00 to 10:45 am Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forrest United Methodist Church or charity of the donor's choice.
Surviving are her children: Stephen Anderson, Forrest; Linda (John) Martin, Gibson City; Kay Anderson (Audris Griffith), Glen Ellyn; Mark (Cheryl) Anderson, Downingtown, Pa; Eric (Kristin) Anderson, Mackinaw; and two grandchildren, Forest and Chloe Anderson, Mackinaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, Alma Jean Shaddle, one brother, Lloyd Shaddle, one granddaughter, Brooke Martin.
Del lived in Forrest nearly her entire life. She attended the Forrest schools and graduated in the class of 1946. She attended one year at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL. She was employed as a typesetter for the Forrest News, a clerical office employee for Swing Transfer Co., and in 1973 began working as a cook at the Meadowbrook School. She worked there for 10 years full-time and another 15 as a substitute cook. She truly loved this job because of the contact she had with children and the enjoyment of sharing with her co-workers.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Forrest, United Methodist Women, and church choir, the American Legion Auxiliary, Sunbeam and Silver League. She loved children, people in general, and was an avid animal lover. Her favorite pastimes included music, seeing plays, playing cards, trips to Branson and working crossword puzzles. For many years, she enjoyed having friends to the Anderson cabin at Twin Lakes, WI.
She was probably most noted for her ability to tell stories & jokes. She always said, "I love to hear people laugh
