Bob Gatti was the fourth child of Elvira "Effie" Grippo and Domenick Gatti. His family left Scranton, PA in 1940, moving to Bristol, CT where he graduated from Bristol High School. Bob enlisted in the US Marine Corp on Dec. 14, 1944. He served in the Pacific first with the Third Marine Division on Guam and later with the First Marine Division in Beijing and Tinsin in China. Upon his release April 26, 1947, Bob studied engineering at Marshall College in Huntington, WV and at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He worked at Bell Helicopter Corp. in Fort Worth, TX during the early 1950s. Bob married Mel Datello on April 17, 1954. They made their home in Bristol, CT where Bob worked for Wallace Barnes Company for over twenty-five years. After retirement from Barnes Group, Inc., Bob began a second career in engineering with COLECO and ending as Facilities Engineer for the Connecticut Mental Health Center in New Haven. Following his second retirement, he pursued his hobbies which included the Gatti passion for gardening.
